What is ocean scattering?
海洋散骨とは、故人や大切なペットのご遺骨を粉骨（パウダー状）にし、自然へ還す供養の一つです。
日本では1991年に「葬送の自由をすすめる会」が普及を促し、X JAPANのHIDEさんや横山やすしさんなどの著名人が実践したことで広く知られるようになりました。
近年では、石原慎太郎元東京都知事も葉山沖で散骨を行っています。
従来のしきたりに縛られず、個人の意思を尊重できる「新しい供養のかたち」です。
現代に求められる自由な供養のかたち
核家族化や宗教観の多様化が進む現代。従来の墓石や仏壇にとらわれない、新しい「お別れのかたち」を希望される方が増えています。
海という大きな自然の中へ還る散骨は、「自分らしく旅立ちたい」「残された家族に負担をかけたくない」という想いにも応える選択肢です。

「A Celebration Of Life」とは、故人の人生を祝福し、ポジティブな記憶とともに送り出すハワイの文化です。ハワイでは、死を悲しみではなく、新たな旅立ちとして捉えます。
参列者はアロハシャツやワンピースなどカジュアルな装いで、会場はレイや花で彩られ、明るく温かな雰囲気に包まれます。

Regarding the legality of scattering ashes
日本の散骨は、「刑法190条」および「墓地埋葬等に関する法律（墓埋法）」に基づき、節度を持って行えば違法ではありません。
⚫︎1990年：法務省が「宗教的感情を害しない形であれば問題ない」と見解
⚫︎1998年：厚生労働省が「公衆衛生上・宗教感情を損なわない限り規制しない」と発表
私たちは、漁業権や近隣住民の宗教的配慮にも十分配慮し、安心して散骨を行っていただける体制を整えています。
▼日本における散骨の法的な位置づけ▼ 散骨を巡る関係法令は「刑法(190条)」と「墓地埋葬等による法律(墓埋法)」の２つです。 刑法190条 海洋散骨の適法性について、1990年に法務省刑事局は「刑法第190条の規程は社会的習俗としての宗教的感情を保護するのが目的のため、葬送のための祭祀で節度をもって行われる限り問題ない」という見解を述べたとされています。 墓地埋葬等による法律(墓埋法) 散骨という埋葬法に関しての 記述はなく、規制はされていない状況です。散骨が規制の対象か否かに関しついては、1998年に厚労省(現：厚生労働省)の生活衛生局が散骨が公衆衛生上の問題を生じたり、社会通念上国民の宗教的感情を損なうようなかたちで行われない限り規制の対象にはならないとの見解を発表しています。(*) *「これからの墓地等の在り方を考える懇談会報告書」1998年、厚労省より 以上から、散骨に違法性はないものと判断し、充分な節度をもち、漁業権者やまわりの人の宗教的感情に十分配慮しながら海洋散骨をおこないます。
About the ceremony day
What to bring
Since the cruise will be far from land, the boat may rock depending on the sea conditions on the day, so if you are prone to motion sickness, we recommend that you bring motion sickness medicine with you. (Providing motion sickness medicine to customers who feel sick is prohibited as it violates the Pharmaceutical Affairs Law.)
Also, since the temperature feels colder at sea than on land, it is a good idea to bring a jacket that is easy to put on and take off.

About the weather
The criteria for deciding whether to cancel a trip will vary depending on the departure point and the desired plan (SUP plan, etc.). We will make weather forecasts using weather charts, etc. before the departure date to decide whether or not to depart on the day.
When you make a reservation, we will set a backup date in case of bad weather on the day of the ceremony. In the unlikely event that the backup date is also canceled, we will work with you to reschedule the date.

Out of consideration for tourists and leisure visitors at the public piers and marinas from which the boat departs, we ask that you refrain from wearing mourning attire and instead wear casual attire.
Please avoid wearing high heels on the ship's deck as the floor is slippery and unstable.
We do not recommend wearing Japanese clothing as it requires a tight obi belt and the sandals are slippery and dangerous on the boat.
Members of Yokohama Ocean Ashes will be welcoming guests in aloha shirts.
